Re-elect Jesse

to AEA Council!

In 2024 I was elected to NationalCouncil of Actors’ Equity Association.

I’m running for re-election with the Stage Left Slate.

My Candidate Statement

In 2024 I was the first openly transgender woman elected to Equity Council, and I’m humbly seeking to earn your vote for re-election. In this political moment when trans people face increased attacks on our rights it’s more important than ever to have my voice on Council where I can continue advocating for the protection of all marginalized genders.

Contracts Worked: Off-Broadway, LOA, SPT, Showcase Code, 29-Hour Reading, Developmental Workshop (working this contract as I write this statement!)

as: Principal, Chorus, Understudy, Swing, Dance Captain, Fight Captain

My Track Record on Council:

  • Gender Inclusivity

    • Effectively drafting language for negotiating teams to enshrine protections for trans rights, gender-affirming care, and abortion.

  • Preventing Harassment and Hostile Work Environments

    • Successfully implemented anti-harassment policies and safe reporting procedures across multiple contracts.

      • I have been sexually harassed on multiple contracts and am determined to break this cycle of abuse for all members.

  • Intimacy and Nudity Riders

    • Creating policies and procedures that offer maximum protections for roles requiring intimacy or nudity.

      • For most of my career I have played roles requiring intimacy and nudity so I’m acutely aware of the necessity of collaboration with intimacy directors to ensure the safety of all involved.

  • 1st VP of Eastern Regional Board

    • I’m your first Vice President of the Eastern Regional Board, which oversees all the bureaucracy of the entire eastern region.

  • SPT and LOAs

    • Significant salary gains, overtime pay, and increased numbers of Equity contracts.

    • I’ve made much of my living on these “smaller” contracts, and I continue to fight for fair wages and increased protections for each contract.

  • Co-Chair of Awards Working Group

    • Formulating a plan for the Equity Awards. SAG has the Actor Awards…we need our own version! (Lots to come!)

My Goals:

  • Salary increases! We need wages that match the cost of living NOW.

  • Profit sharing! When our labor contributes to the artistic product of a show we deserve a share in those profits!

  • Continue enshrining language in our contract that protects every worker’s bodily autonomy (gender affirming care, abortion, disability).

  • Continue advocating for all survivors of sexual harassment and discrimination and demanding our employers are held accountable

  • Continue building the Equity Awards so our union can have nationally recognized honors.

My Promises to You:

  • I will always speak truth to power.

  • I will always fight for the most marginalized.

  • I will always be open to criticism, critique, and suggestions.

  • I will always be a resource for your Equity needs;

  • I will fight this political moment by bargaining for the most ironclad worker protections possible.

A vote for me is a vote for a fierce fighter, practiced labor leader, and indefatiguable advocate. It would be my honor to continue serving you and spend the next four years making our union work for ALL of us.
